Long story short: For Kansas City standards, these are some pretty legit tacos similar to what I can get in LA Long story long: I was told by my old roommate about this place, that they have some pretty good tacos reminiscent of the ones that I can get back in LA. One night, we finally decided to come here. Apparently this is their Taqueria, with a larger, sit down style restaurant literally just around the corner. This place seats about maybe 15-18 people, with a self serve soda fountain and condiment/salsa bar. I looked at the menu and they pretty much only offered tacos, burritos, and tortas. They had a couple of other items here and there, but that was pretty much it. The prices seemed pretty reasonable too. What really got me excited was that I saw more than just the "safe" carne asada, pollo, and carnitas. They had cabeza, lengua, tripa, and a couple of others that you only find on taco trucks in LA. I even decided to brush up on my Spanish and ordered. "dos de cabeza, dos de lengua, dos de carnitas, un asada y una tripa" "te gusta tripa?" the girl behind the counter said shockingly. All I did was nod. The tacos were $1.75, which is usually highway robbery, but then again I was ordering from an actual brick and mortar restaurant and not a taco truck. My roommate and I took our food and went home. I opened it all up, squeeze some lime wedges, as well as both the hot salsa and the salsa verde, and dug in. The cabeza was good, but not as good as the El Taquito Mexicano truck and was a little more greasy, but the rest of it all was pretty good. Not quite as good as off the back of a truck, but for Kansas City standards, it was pretty legit. I've been back several times. Once I got a wet burrito and that was a good sized burrito and was good. I've also come on Tuesday for $1 taco night, which are just hard shell ground beef tacos, but still, $1 tacos!!! I will continue coming here for as long as I live out here.

YUM!!! Hole in the wall, very small taqueria. Love these street tacos, and my daughter loves their tamales. Not very expensive. You have to try the pastor tacos. M. M. M. There you go, short and sweet! Go there NOW!

Really great tasting food and good service. The best tasting Mexican in Kansas City. Good prices.

I am a big fan of the taqueria. They have delicious tacos, quesidillas, etc but also have authentic Mexican dishes like cow tongue. The burritos are massive, much bigger than Chipotle and smothered in delicious cheese sauce. The place used to be a very little hole in the wall, but they have recently bought out the barber shop next door and expanded into that. Now they serve ice cream and Mexican frozen treats up front as well as the regular stuff. It is much better now that they have more room.

If you love the main restaurant, you'll love their little to go spot around the corner.

The neighborhood may be shady, however, the tacos are the best! At the suggestion of the staff I tried the cabeza tacos and the lengua tacos. Both are really good, but cabeza is my new favorite. It's so rich and delicious! Their tamales are really good as well. I dig the avacado salsa on just about everything, next time I might pour some on my arm and lick it off. I like the Taqueria better than the sit down Dos De Oros across the way. For some reason the food tastes better when I'm risking having my tires stolen.

Delicious, authentic Mexican food. Street tacos are stellar.

Best Mexican food I've had in Kansas city. Nachos are off the chain. The taco Tuesday dollar tacos are more than adequate. Fast. Cheap. Delicious.

My favorite taqueria in Kansas City. When the guys behind the counter barely speak English, and beef brains and tongue are on the menu, you know it's a good sign that it's authentic!! The only taqueria I've found that makes me feel kinda like I'm back home in California again. If it weren't for Dos de Oros and Chipotle, I'd be longing and dreaming for burritos back in the Mission District in San Francisco.

Well Dos De Oros has lost me as a customer. The last time I was here they were out of chorizo. How the HECK is a Mexican taqueria out of chorizo on a Saturday after being open for less than 30 minutes? And then today I'm told they are 'out of breakfast burritos'. Again, how the HECK are you 'out of breakfast burritos' when it's only 930 on a Saturday? Good Lord someone needs to learn how to run a business. Anyway, I drive a long way for their food and to be turned away because they can't seem to properly stock food items is unacceptable. I'll eat at one of the numerous places near me.

I was planning on heading to Chipotle, but I have to drive by Dos De Oros to get there, so I thought,..."hey, what the heck? I'll try it!" I was so impressed! The food was fantastic! I ordered a crispy carne taco, a soft shredded beef taco, and 2 pork and pineapple tacos. AMAZING! I felt like I was eating food like Rick Bayless on Mexico One Plate at a Time makes! Very fresh. Lots of cilantro on the soft tacos. And they're only $1.50 a piece. The also have a condiment bar with fresh salsas and salads and lime. I went back and ordered a chicken tamale, because if their tacos were that good, I had to try a tamale. Best tamale I've ever put into my mouth! I can't wait to go back for taco Tuesday when all the crispy ground beef tacos are just a buck! The restaurant was clean and the service was excellent.

authentic, great little hole in the wall - I have stuck with tacos and never been disappointed. inexpensive.

I just tried this place. Close to my house which is a HUGE bonus because everyone should have a good street taco within 5 minutes of home. I'm giving them five stars for their street tacos, service and overall vibe. This is the Taqueria, not the restaurant, and honestly I prefer the taqueria to the restaurant. I can only speak to the street tacos so far. The pastore was perfect. Adovado was great as well. And the pollo street taco was excellent. My tip, get the pastore. The service was great. Really sweet folks, even at 2:00PM when their shift was ending and they were trying to get ready to leave. I love a good taqueria. These are close to the ones I've had at the food trailers in Austin, TX. Great food quality, excellent service, tasty, fast, cheap, a perfect meal. If you're considering this place, do it. You won't be disappointed.

One of the best places in KC for street tacos and the salsa bar is a real plus. I only gave 4 stars since this was my first time at Dos De Oros - trending to 5 stars.

This is a new location (May 2010) around the corner from the parent restaurant. Just had a quick lunch there today and was quite impressed. The food is incredibly authentic and delicious. Extremely flavorful and I look forward to returning to try new dishes. Cash only. Assortment of sauces and pickled dishes available (self-serve); seating is limited. If you want to order a larger quantity of tacos or tamales, they ask you to call ahead first. Highly recommended!

Awesome little Taco Shop. Some truly authentic and delicious dishes, as well as your standard Americanized ground beef tacos. Service has been mostly friendly. Not a lot of places to sit, but good quick little lunch place. They have a full service restaurant up the street for additional menu items.

I am pretty big street taco fan, and this place takes the cake (not that cake and tacos have any relation to each other)! Everything from the meet, ,salsa, to the corn tortilla's are absolutely fantastic! If you have ever been to the Dos De Oros right across the street one would know how great the food is, and the fact that they opened a taco place right around the corner is fabulous! They have other options other than just the street taco's, but as of now I am sticking to the taco's they are to-die-for!

I eat here almost every week. That should say a lot about a restaurant, right? Most people order their burritos, enchiladas, and all the typical TexMex food available. But if you're really curious about authentic Latin American food, try their pastor, lengua, ceviche dishes. My usual order consists of soft tacos either adovada or asada and some days lengua. They also have a very refreshing drink called horchata that my husband and I always share. Parking can sometimes be a challenge and it's nowhere near fancy but I wouldn't be eating here almost every week if it wasn't good.

I will not preach to you all about the blessings bestowed upon me by street tacos. lol Pork stomach Beef head Beef tripe Beef tongue Lord have mercy upon me and my arteries. I had bookmarked this joint long ago. I drive through here all the time. Maybe you should skip the Hotzie at QT across the street and grab a little bite of heaven. The carne taco was okay... good but maybe needing that extra few seconds on the griddle to render and caramelize just right. The pastor was slightly sweet and smoky... just as it should be with paprika, pineapple and onions. The beef tongue was stewed and chunks of perfect beef perfection. Everyone likes a bit of tongue now and again, no? lol The cabeza, which is beef head, or better said stewed beef cheeks, was like a sunday pot roast with a bit more black pepper than usual. Just dripping good... ask my chin. : ) Do NOT forget the pickled carrots and onions to cleanse your palette between tacos and the fine assortment of salsas and chilies.

Two words: TACO TUESDAY. Who can pass up $1 tacos? That's the only thing I've had there so I can't say much but it's definitely a yummy place to stop by the hot sauces are so good including their salsa Verde and an avocado sauce. The service could be friendlier but don't let that steer you away.

My husband is very picky about Mexican food (it must be authentic). This is one of his favorite restaurants. There are not many vegetarian/pescatarian options (fish taco, fish tostada, shrimp tostada). He loves the tortas! The parking lot is too small for their popularity. It is inexpensive and they often have specials. Note: the online menu is for the restaurant, not the taqueria.

This place is like stepping into a restaurant in mexico. You can find food choices there that are hard to find in the city; tripe and cow tongue tacos and tequila ice cream for example. The restaurant is clean and service decent. Bonus points if you speak to them in spanish! amy, fabulouseatskc.com

Hubby & I were out a ways further south than we generally get on Blue Ridge Blvd. this afternoon and suddenly got hungry. So decided to take a chance on Dos De Oros Taqueria and it turned out to be a good choice. It's a pretty small place and the sign out front even says "food to go" but we got ours to eat in and it was fresh and good. We would definitely make a return trip. I ordered the Supreme Taco which is a flour tortilla filled with lettuce, tomato, sour cream and onion and a choice of meat. I went for the Pastor that has pork and pineapple and it was very good. Hubby got Supreme tacos with shredded beef and he said his was good, too. There were several much more exotic choices such as beef tongue, beef tripe and beef head, but I decided not to get too adventuresome on this first visit. There is a small salsa bar with several levels of heat. I stayed with the 'medium' green sauce and it was a good choice. Also ordered a side of re-fried beans that were creamy and enjoyable. I want to head back to this location for another meal soon and to try some of the others choices. I understand that there is also a Dos De Oros restaurant and the menu for that location sounds yummy. I could end up spending many happy hours checking out the items one by one at either location. If you find yourself driving by Dos De Oros Taqueria, don't be afraid to give it a try. They may not be fancy, but the food is good.

This place rules hard. Anyone who doesn't give this place 5 stars for their food probably only eats their steak well-done, hates all seafood, and only uses ranch for salad dressing. Okay, that might be harsh, but you will be hard-pressed to find better taqueria style food in KC that will outshine this spot. If you're a n00b, and you want to try something other than chicken in your tacos, then go for the al pastor or adobada meat. Carne asada is good as well, but the al pastor and adobada are where things really are at. Be sure to get the soft tacos too, not the crunchy kind. Salsas are good, though I wish their "hot" salsa was a lot hotter. Also, it would be sweet if they did all meat burritos like they do at King Taco and El Taurino in LA. A burrito packed with meat, and sprinkled with onion and cilantro and hot salsa. No need for rice and beans! Another great option is the nachos. I was recently turned on to these bad boys and they are really delicious. I don't normally like nachos, but I crave them regularly now! Give them a try with ground beef, or al pastor.

Thinking about going to Chipotle? Stop. Thinking about going to Taco Bell? Stop (and evaluate your lifestyle/food choices). Instead, go to Dos De Oros Taqueria and enjoy a great selection of Mexican food. When I'm craving a burrito, this is the place I go to. You get a huge burrito filled with your choice of freshly grilled meat for such an amazing price! The staff are always friendly and service is usually quick. The only reason I only gave 4 stars is for cleanliness (it could use a little work) and parking (during busy times, it may be hard to find a spot and you have to take your life into your hands if you want to make a left out of the parking lot during lunch and dinner hours since the intersection of Blue Ridge and Holmes is pretty busy).

I think this is the only five star review I've given. Authentic Mexican tamales served fast and delicious. Salsa bar with choices all excellent. THE example of hole-in-the-wall Mexican food. Not fancy, hearty.

Hot damn! I had never heard of Dos de Oros but a coworker took us in today. The signage is all in Spanish with English printed in about 1/2 the size beneath - always a good sign. I went with the Combo 1- four tacos my way. I had a pair of asada tacos, one carnitas, and one avodavo. The avodavo and asada were really, really good. The price is right, the woman working the register was super friendly, and three of us ate with appetizers and drinks to boot for 26 bucks. Not a single complaint and I'll be back soon.

Good service and food, but it would be nice is they expanded their weekend hours, to close at 10:00 and not 9:00, like they do every other day of the week. I like to go out later and closing at 9:00 Friday & Saturday is an inconvenience, and I have to believe whole heartedly that they would make more money that way. PS:- their homemade ice cream is delicious!

It's a hole in the wall with amazingly authentic quick mex. It's nothing to look at but don't let that influence your decsion to eat here. I have been sampling the steak tacos as of late - AMAZING. there's a salsa bar for every taste too.

I went on a hunt for tacos today. It be like that sometimes. I actually had lunch at another spot that was hella tasty: El Fogon. So three tacos and a mess of charred cebollas in, I was still feelin' the taco craving. Tacos twice in one day too much? Hell to the Ngo! Excited by the lengua on the menu, I made a stop over to this taqueria and was hella happy I made the drive. The salsa bar is super fresh. Their cabbage slaw and cucumber/red onion pickles were spice heaven. I like my food spicy so any place that has a good selection of chili peppers is going to do well in my book. Bonus points for the habanero sauce. I ordered the viva Mexico with two lengua, asada, and pastor. Satisfied. On the way out, I definitely saw the pupusas crisping on the grill. Will be back for damn sure.

  • Steve D.

The salsa and toppings bar was the star here. Unique options were available, including chili oil, salsa habanero, pupusa sauce, avocado, curtido, etc. The tacos had a fair amount of delicious meat, and the price was right - ground beef tacos are $0.99 on taco Tuesdays, and soft tacos are regularly $1.89. The service at the counter was just okay. My tacos were delivered to my table in just four minutes. The dining area was clean, but the Mexican music was a little too loud, and parking was tight.

i asked if I can have pineapples with my barbacoa meat selection for my tostado but the lady said no. that's okay, I said to her, I will go with el pastor since the description reads that pineapples are included. may I request extra pineapples though? I love pineapples. (lady: definitely!) critique: too much bread with too little meat and mostly fats (I hate this so much), absolutely NO pineapples, only a smidge of guacamole.. beans were of acceptable proportion to the rest of the entree. food tasted bland. sour cream I asked for on the side but did not touch at all. I was put off by its runny (and speckled) consistency.. am I wrong to have assumed sour cream shouldn't be runny like water? I appreciate they had a salsa bar on the side in the dining area. on Papusa Sundays: my experience says papusas aren't that great

Great little taqueria that allows me to not drive all the way to KCK for authentic tacos, but a bit more expensive than KCK also....guess I'm in the positive though considering the gas money I'm saving! ;) I had three tacos & a mandarin Jarritos. The tacos were tongue, tripe, & el pastor. They were all very good, but I have had better in KC. I love the close location & it's clean. They are always very kind & helpful & speak good English so if you have questions they are good to explain. When I order my tongue & tripe tacos using the Spanish words they are always good to give me the English words...I'm sure they're thinking this girl has no clue what she just ordered!! I would also encourage you to try them! They may sound weird, but after I tried them it is rare I get anything else! The only reason I got el pastor today was because it was the special! I suggest if you get the tripe get it in a soft taco, but the tripe crispy. But I would highly encourage you to try the tongue tacos. I trick my friends all the time into trying them by ordering in Spanish & everyone has liked them until afterwards when I tell them what it is. :) I just say get over the idea & ENJOY!!!!

I came simply because of all the reviews with five stars and them mentioning how it reminded them of SoCal Mexican food and being from San Diego, I truly miss the cheap, greasy, good-even-when-bad Mexican food... Lol not here. Did the reviewers only go to On The Border or Taco Bell while there? Do they consider El Torritos true Mexican food or something? For starters, it should be a two dollar sign place compared to good taco shops and the amount of food for the money is terrible. Next, cheese dipping sauce? What? Really? I don't even...I got cheese dipping sauce on a breakfast burrito... Then there's the extremely limited menu. Very little choice and none of it honestly seemed appealing. I mean, the carne asada wasn't even that good. How can you mess up carne asade?!? (Cheese dip sauce, BTW) I'm giving them two stars only because it wasn't busy and we got our food fast.

This is one of my favorite places. I've lived all over the West Coast and this place is just as good if not better than places I've eaten near the border. I laugh when people say it's good by Kansas City standards, it's good period. I won't comment on the neighborhood being shady because it's actually an ok neighborhood and what does that matter? The inside is very clean and the service is always great. I love the menudo when they have it. All of the tacos are great and the veggies are fresh. I won't insult the owners by calling it a hole in the wall as they seem to take great pride in the upkeep of their small business. Give it a shot!

Haven't been to the parent restaurant, but I've been in here a couple times on food runs to go. It's nice and clean inside the main area, service is quick and polite andall that, but that's not the important thing. The important thing is: lengua. Yes, lengua. Tongue. Tongue and tripe and head, the holy trilogy of meats that sound gross but are actually quite tasty. And also won't be found at your typical Tex-Mix kinda place. If a Mexican place has lengua on the menu, I know I'm in good shape. Give me a big ol' torta de lengua, maybe a couple tamales on the side, and I'm happy as a girl can be. Fortunately the taqueria does a great job on these. Nice decent sized torta with plenty of filling. They have chicken and pork tamales, both of which are your basic tamales, tasty if a bit on the pricy side. Haven't tried the tacos yet, but I suspect they're good too. It's a little bit of a drive from where I live--not too bad, but worth it for the grub (protip: grab a tamale to munch on the way home to quiet your stomach down).

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
